ZUMA Represents Ronald Reagan's Legacy in Pictures by Michael Evans

Laguna Beach, CA - June 9, 2004

ZUMA Press, Inc., the premier international editorial picture agency and wire service, is proud to announce its representation of Michael Evans' photographic collection of President Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Evans began covering Reagan in 1975 as a contract photographer for TIME Magazine. When Reagan was elected President in 1980, Evans was asked to be the President's Personal Photographer. Evans' goal was to document the faces, places and historical moments of the Reagan Years. The result is a photographic study of a truly American president.

Of Evans' work, President Reagan once said, "Through Michael's lenses are captured the special moments of history, which will exist long after I leave office. He records for future generations the good and the bad -- the victory and the defeats ... Michael always does this with grace and skill. Being one of his subjects is always a pleasure."

Michael Evans' photography is represented exclusively, worldwide, by ZUMA Press. Commenting on the collection, Scott Mc Kiernan, ZUMA's director and founder, said, "Mike's work is important today as our nation reflects on the extraordinary life of President Reagan but it's essential for tomorrow and onward as his work is a reminder of what a journalist is, a recorder of history."

About Michael Evans

The son of a Canadian diplomat, Michael Evans was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised abroad. He spent over 20 years in photojournalism and picture editing. His career as a photographer began at the Port Hope Evening Guide (Ontario, Canada), followed by The Plain Dealer (Cleveland, Ohio), the New York Times and TIME Magazine. Evans is most recognized for his work as the personal photographer to President Ronald Reagan. During his four years creating a photo documentary of Reagan's administration, Evans also helped improve the access for newspaper, agency and magazine photographers, thereby improving the relationship between the photographers and the White House. Evans returned to photojournalism with TIME Magazine and later became the director of photography for the Atlanta Journal & Constitution.

Evans' photography work earned him numerous top honors, including a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography, awards from the National Press Photographers Association, the New York Press Photographers Association and the Ohio News Photographers Association. He is also an Honorary Master of Photography recipient from Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara, Ca. In addition to his work in photojournalism, Evans is an accomplished technology innovator. One of his first forays into data management involved creating a simple and easy way for photographers and newspapers to caption their pictures quickly and easily in batches. His application became known among newspaper newsrooms across the country as Iron Mike. Evans is currently the Chief Technology Officer at ZUMA Press.

Michael Evans' photo archive is represented exclusively around the world by ZUMA Press.
