Everyone Loves Hybrids

A Mother's Day Dream - by Cheryl Hatch/ZUMA Press

A Mother's Day Dream

For the perfect feature to tie into International Day of the Midwife (May 5) and Mother's Day (May 8) check out Welcome Finn Avery--a beautifully photographed black and white essay by ZUMA photojournalist Cheryl Hatch.

Home births are widely championed as a sacred experience that emphasizes a woman's intuition, spirituality and inner power. Hatch documented one such delivery, at the home of Jenny Hughes in Millfield, Ohio. The feature begins on the day Jenny's water broke and walks us through the hours of care and support Jenny's husband, close friends and midwife provided as she worked through labor to bring her healthy baby boy, Finn Avery, into this world.

zReportage Update

CSI IRAQ: Quest for Closure - © DAVID GROSS/ZUMA Press

Only a few of Iraq's mass graves are being handled with the care and finesse of a fine forensic investigation. Time, money and lack of expertise prevent thousands of other corpses from being examined with the same regard. With such an absence of resources, families in desperate search for their missing relatives are left with many unanswered questions.
