ZUMA Press Scores License Agreement with Canada's Largest Daily - The Toronto Star

A century of stellar photographs - including the "Black Hawk Down" series by renowned photojournalist Paul Watson.

Laguna Beach, CA - April 3, 2003

ZUMA Press, Inc. (www.ZUMApress.com), one of the world's leading providers of editorial photography, and the Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily newspaper, today announced an agreement giving ZUMA Press world-wide licensing rights to the Toronto Star's entire editorial image archive. As part of the partnership The Toronto Star supplements the collection daily with its award winning coverage.

The Toronto Star Picture Library dates back to 1892, including the timely 1994 Pulitzer Prize "Black Hawk Down" photo by Paul Watson, of a US Soldier's body being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, Somalia.

As well as Pulitzer photography, the Toronto Star's collection is deep and varied in national and international news stories, politicians, celebrities and business leaders from Canada & around the World; exceptional feature & reportage picture stories; full coverage of Afghanistan War in 2001; major league sports; Toronto Film Festival and much much more.

"The Toronto Star has a highly desirable collection of photography that we are honored to represent," said Scott Mc Kiernan, Director of ZUMA Press.

"We are seeing a spike in interest in the "Black Hawk Down" images given the parallel concerns over treatment of American POWs in Iraq," he said. (Fresh on the newsstands, see this week's TIME's page 63 story titled 'Playing by Mogadishu Rules' is illustrated with one of the images in that award winning series.) According to Mc Kiernan, " 'Black Hawk Down' images are the tip of the iceberg, Toronto Star visual content is appearing proudly everywhere around the globe via ZUMA Press, now thanks to this partnership! "
