ZUMA Photographer Wins Gordon Parks Award Source: Editor & Publisher Date: November 14, 2005 NEW YORK ZUMA Press photographer Sarah Meghan Lee won first place in the 17th annual Gordon Parks International Photography Competition. Her winning image showed a 19-year-old woman lying on a bench as she waited for a specialist inside the General Hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti. The specialist never arrived. Parks -- the photographer, filmmaker, novelist, and poet -- personally chose the Mexico City-based Lee's work for the top honor. Another prize winner is photographer Hazel Thompson of zReportage.com, a ZUMA division. She placed first in the 2005 Observer Hodge Photographic Awards for her coverage of the horrible conditions faced by 68,000 children in Philippine prisons.
